Getting Started

Hello there!

You're lucky enough to use Proctorio in your courses to take your online exams! There is no need to schedule them in advance, and you can take them at any location that satisfies the expectations of your professor.

You will be required to have:

• A webcam and a microphone. Some professors may ask you to use an external webcam that you can move around to show your desk, table, and the space you are working in.
• Google Chrome browser.
• Stable high-speed internet connection.
• Quiet and bright location to take the proctored exam.
• A valid photo ID. You can use a government-issued driver's license, passport, or school ID.

Proctorio is not a creepy person staring at you through a webcam. Instead, it's a system of computers that keep an eye on you while you take the test. Yes, you are being recorded, so don't do anything you wouldn't do in a classroom while taking a test!

Rest assured that only your professor and qualified admin and technical support have access to recordings.

Installing Google Chrome

When you're ready to take a proctored exam, you will need to use Google Chrome.

Chrome is fast, secure, and works on any computer - best of all; it is free!

Installing the Proctorio Extension

Proctorio also requires you to install a Chrome extension.

You will only need to do this once unless you use a different computer.

It takes less than 30 seconds; please go to getproctorio.com.

 “You don’t have access to this service”

Follow the steps below if you receive the message  “You don’t have access to this service” when installing the Proctorio extension. 

If you are using your school's account to sign in to Google some restrictions might prevent you from installing apps and extensions in Chrome.

1-Go to your chrome browser and click on the image for Google Account located next to the three dots to the top right of the Chrome browser. 

2- Click on "+Add" to add a new person to your profile.

3-Next, to set up a new Chrome profile, please select the option to "Continue without an account" link.

4-Then type in your name, and click the "Done" button.

5-After a new profile is added, go to getproctorio.com to install the extension again.

Starting the Quiz

Once Google Chrome and the Proctorio extension have been installed you can then navigate to your quiz in Canvas and click on the “Take the Quiz” button to start your exam.

The following steps will guide you through the pre-check steps. 

System Diagnostic Test

The Proctorio Pre-Quiz verification page will open showing everything that needs to be enabled or disabled on your computer which will be listed in the red alert box.

To fix this, click the “click here” link for each item in the red alert area.

Note: You will not be able to start the exam until all items in the red alert box have been resolved.

Next,  click on the “Exam Pre-Checks” button. Proctorio will run a System Diagnostic Test in your computer to ensure the webcam, microphone, connection, and desktop capture are all working properly.

Proctorio will provide a “click here” link with troubleshooting steps when some of the items are in red during the “System Diagnostic Text.”

Microphone Level Test

Once you have passed the “System Diagnostic Test” you will need to click on the “Next” button to continue and the Microphone Level Test will start.

ID Verification

The next step will be the ID verification process. Proctorio will capture an image of your government-issued driver's license, passport, or school ID automatically. Make sure to click the “next” button to continue once you are done with this step.

Webcam Verification

The webcam verification test will be next to make sure all facial features are clearly visible during the exam.

Room scan

The room scan is one of the most important steps since your professors might be really specific about what they want to see during the room scam.

Please, make sure you read the exam instructions carefully before taking the exam so you are aware of the requirements.

Click on the "START SCAN" button once you are ready to scan your room.

Exam Agreement

The exam agreement will be the final step before the exam begins.
