Please ensure that you are using the Google Chrome browser, have the Honorlock extension installed, and all other proctoring services have been disabled in your browser.

External Webcam Requirements

Florida Southwestern State College requires students to use an external webcam for all proctored exams. You can use your own, visit our on-site proctoring rooms on any campus, or request a webcam from the IT Helpdesk by filling out the Student Technology Check-out Request form.

Please note that students can only request 1 webcam from the IT Helpdesk, and we will not replace broken or lost webcams.

Enabling the Honorlock Extension

What is a Google Chrome Extension?

An extension is a program that is meant to customize and extend the functionality of your Google Chrome web browser. There are thousands of extensions, and each proctoring service has its own extension that must be added to Chrome and enabled before beginning your exam.

How do I disable a Google Chrome Extension, and why would I need to?

Each proctoring service has its own extension. All of these proctoring extensions function similarly to one another, so you cannot enable two at the same time.

The correct extension to enable will depend on what proctoring service your Professor is using for your exam. For example, if the Professor is using Honorlock on the exam, you will need to have only the Honorlock extension enabled. If the Professor is using Proctorio on the exam, you will need to have only the Proctorio extension enabled.

If you aren't sure which Proctoring Service is being used for an exam, you can always reach out to your Professor or the FSW IT Helpdesk to ask!

What will happen if I have the wrong extension enabled?

If the incorrect extension is enabled, you will receive an error that you need to add the correct extension to Chrome. You will receive this error even if you have already added the extension to Chrome and it is simply disabled. So, it's important to check that you have the correct extension enabled for the exam!

Here's what the error will look like if you have the Proctorio extension enabled while trying to take an Honorlock exam.

If you see this error, make sure to first check your Google Chrome extensions to ensure you have added the Honorlock Extension to Chrome.

To view your installed extensions, click the Puzzle Piece icon in the top right corner of your Google Chrome web browser. Then, select Manage Extensions.

Next, make sure you see Honorlock listed as an installed extension.

Finally, make sure that only the Honorlock extension is enabled by toggling the other proctoring services' extensions to OFF, and ensuring that only Honorlock remains toggled ON.
