How to Set Up Canvas Grading for H5P
To insert your H5P activity onto your Canvas assignment page and set up grading, go to the assignment settings.
- Click on “Edit”.
- Scroll down to Submission Type.
- Select “External Tool” from the drop down menu.
- Click on “Find”.
- Scroll down until you find “Interactive Content - H5P”.
- Click on “Interactive Content - H5P”.
- You will be redirected to your H5P content, where you will insert the H5P content.
- Find the activity you want to insert onto your assignment page.
- Click on the green “Insert” button for that activity.
- Click on “Select”.
- The link should be populated in the External Tool URL field. Caution: It automatically checks the “Load this tool in a new tab” setting. Uncheck the box before saving if a new tab is not desired.
- Adjust other assignment settings, point values and dates as necessary, then click on “Save”.
- Now when students submit their answers, the grade should report to Canvas gradebook.

If students get the message “Your gradebook did not confirm receiving this attempt”, check your settings to make sure the External Tool is linked correctly.
