H5P is an interaction authoring site that allows users to create interactive presentations and fun activities for their courses and embed the content straight into Canvas. This article will outline how users can share their interactions with one another, how to use H5P to create OER, and how to access the H5P OER Hub.

Sharing One Interaction with One or More Faculty Members at FSW


You can give editing rights to any other H5P user at FSW by adding their name as a collaborator in the interaction.

To make someone at FSW a collaborator on any interaction, please follow these steps.

  1. Log into your H5P account and find the H5P interaction you would like to share.
  2. If you are not already editing the interaction, click the "Edit" button above the interaction.
  3. After letting the page load, scroll all the way down the page, past the interaction content to the Settings.
  4. On the left-hand side menu, choose the "Collaborators" option.
  5. Begin to type the name or email of the user or users you would like to share your interaction with in the textbox.
    • As you type, the system should anticipate users you may want to share the interaction with.
    • Select the user or users you would like to share your interaction with.
    • You may only add users who have already generated their H5P account through Canvas.
  6. Click the blue "Save" button at the bottom of the page to save your collaborators for this interaction.

Sharing a Group of Interactions with One or More Faculty Members at FSW


A user can easily share a group of interactions with one or more faculty members by grouping the interactions in one folder and then sharing that folder with users.

Creating Folders in H5P

Folders can help you organize your interactions by course, discipline, project, or anything in between.

You can add a new folder to your Content list by clicking the "New Folder" button (next to the "Add Content" button) at the top of the H5P landing page once you log in.

Once you have the folder structure you would like to use, you can move the different interactions you have made into the folder of your choice.

Moving Interactions into Folders

There are a couple of different ways to move an interaction into a folder.

For interactions you are currently editing:

  1. Scroll all the way down the page, past the interaction content to the Settings.
  2. On the left-hand side menu, choose the "Folder" option.
  3. Choose the folder from your list of folders that you would like to place your interaction in.
    • If you have nested folders, you should be able to view those nested folders by clicking on the plus sign next to the folder icon.
  4. Click the blue "Save" button at the bottom of the page to save your collaborators for this interaction.

To move existing interactions into a folder, follow these steps:

  1. Find the interaction you would like to move into a folder.
  2. Locate and click on the three horizontal dots on the right side of the screen next to the title of your chosen interaction.
  3. In the small pop-up menu that appears, click the "Move" option.
  4. In the larger pop-up window, choose the folder or nested folder in which you would like the interaction to be located.
  5. Click the blue "Move" button to confirm the new folder location of your interaction.

Sharing a Folder of Interactions with One or More Faculty Members

If you have a group of interactions that you would like to share with the same group of faculty, you can add all of the interactions to one H5P folder and share that folder with your chosen group of FSW faculty. Please note that when you add a group of faculty to a folder, you are granting permission to not just view but also edit the interactions you have within that folder.

To share a folder with one or more FSW faculty members, follow these steps:

  1. Find the folder with all of the interactions you would like to share with a specific group of FSW faculty.
  2. Locate and click on the three horizontal dots on the right side of the screen next to the title of your chosen folder.
  3. In the small pop-up menu that appears, click the "Share with organization" option.
  4. In the larger pop-up window, choose the "Collaborators" tab.
  5. Type in the names or email addresses of the faculty members you would like to have access to the interactions within the folder and select them as the names pop up.
    • Note that you will only be able to add the names of faculty members who have created their FSW H5P accounts.
  6. Click the blue "Update" button at the bottom of the window once you have finished adding faculty.

Sharing Interactions with Everyone at FSW


If you create one H5P interaction or a group of H5P interactions that you would like to share with everyone at FSW, please follow the steps below.

When you share content with your organization the content CAN NOT be edited by others at the college. Instead, FSW H5P users will be able to see the content and copy it so they can have their own copy of the interaction.

To share interactions with everyone at FSW, please follow these steps:

  1. Find the interaction you would like to share or the folder you would like to share in your H5P account.
  2. Locate and click on the three horizontal dots on the right side of the screen next to the title of your chosen interaction or folder.
  3. In the small pop-up menu that appears, click the "Share with Organization" option.
  4. In the larger pop-up window, make sure you have the "Share with Organization" tab selected.
  5. Choose the institutional folder or folders you would like your content to be found. Currently, the institutional folders are organized by School.
  6. Click the blue "Update" button to save your interactions in your chosen institutional folder.

Sharing Interactions with the Public


H5P is a great resource for creating OER content that can be shared with anyone. Follow the steps below to learn how to share content you created with others outside of FSW.

  1. Find the specific interaction you would like to share outside of FSW.
  2. Locate and click on the three horizontal dots on the right side of the screen next to the title of your chosen interaction.
  3. In the small pop-up menu that appears click the "Share on OER Hub" option.
  4. In the larger pop-up window, fill out all of the required information, including under which creative commons license you would like to publish the material.
  5. Fill out the optional information as desired and review the data.
  6. Click the blue "Share" button at the bottom of the window.

Please note that in order to abide by existing copyright law, content that includes or that is based on copyrighted publisher content should not be published as Open Educational Resource material.

How to Access the H5P OER Hub


If you would like to explore the available H5P interaction on the OER Hub that you can use in your own courses, please follow these steps.

  1. In your H5P account, click the blue "Add Content" button at the top of the screen.
  2. Click on the "Get Shared Content" radio button at the top of the window with the different interaction types.
  3. Search by keywords and filter by Language, Content-Type, Discipline, etc.
  4. Choose the interaction you would like to use.
  5. Click the yellow "Get Content" button to download a copy of the interaction into your H5P account.
  6. You can choose to either save the interaction as is or make changes to the interaction immediately.
  7. Click the blue "Save" button at the top right-hand side of the screen to save the interaction to your account.
