Online courses are created through a collaborative development process between the Learning Technologies instructional design (ID) team and qualified Subject Matter Experts (SMEs). The requirements for developing an online course at FSW are outlined in the Collective Negotiations Agreement 2019-2022 (Article 8.1.C). To begin your request for an online course development project click the "Submit Request Form" button, fill out the requested information and attach the two required documents (see below).

SME Requirements
Course developers should meet the following minimum requirements prior to submitting a course development request.
- Subject Matter Expert in the discipline
- Complete Online Teaching Certification: View the Certification List
- Complete DEV 101: Request Enrollment
Course Map
If you meet these requirements please prepare your course map using the approved Course Map Template. This Course Map requires approval of the School’s academic leadership. Learning Technologies will not approve project requests that do not have the Dean's approval. The signed course map indicates:
- The course has been approved through Curriculum Committee and is currently offered at FSW.
- The instructional materials, resources and learning objectives have been approved by the department and dean.
- The SME has permission to submit the request to Learning Technologies.

- Scanned copy of Course Map with signed approvals page
- Course Map Word document with descriptive file name (Jdoe_AAA1234 Course Map_Approved.docx).
The word document version will allow us to copy/paste your course information to set up your customized course template in the first phase of the project.
Course Design Timeline
It is important to plan well ahead to account for the course development process. A full course development generally takes 20+ weeks to complete. Review the Course Development Timeline for a detailed overview of the process. To allow adequate time to complete your course please use these submission guidelines when submitting your request.
