Florida SouthWestern State College is a public institution, and many campus spaces are open to the public, including members of the media, religious organizations, political groups, etc. Public access is permitted as long as activities are lawful and do not disrupt classes, services, or college operations, or interfere with the rights and privacy of others.
FSW follows Florida law and its own institutional policies regarding public access, expressive activity, and appropriate use of campus facilities.
Examples of generally allowable spaces
- Outdoor common areas such as walkways, courtyards, and open plazas
- Campus libraries and student services buildings during normal operating hours
- Publicly advertised events that are open to the community
Examples of restricted spaces
- Classrooms, labs, or testing areas while instruction or assessments are taking place
- Offices, advising spaces, or meeting rooms where private student or employee matters are discussed
- Areas requiring credentials, tickets, reservations, or payment for entry
- Any location where activity would disrupt operations or create safety or privacy concerns
These guidelines align with Florida Statute §1004.097 , which governs expressive activities and public access at public institutions of higher education:
