How to: Navigate a Flex-ible Teaching Space

Crestron System

All Flex-ible classroom spaces have a Crestron system in place. If you see a Crestron Controller, then the following will apply.

Crestron Controller Highlighted

  1. Power on the Computer

  2. Power on Doc Cam if intend on using

  3. The Crestron Button Panel is motion-activated; tap or wave your hand in front of it to wake it up.

    2. The button panel will light up white lights, if its blue something is active on it 

 

  1. Power Button for Crestron Controller - Turns on Projector and sources to Podium PC
  2. Activating one of these button will let you control what source is displayed on the Projector
    • Top Left - Podium PC
    • Top Middle - Document Camera
    • Top Right - Guest HDMI
  3.  Activating one of these buttons will control the Projector
    • Left Middle - Projector Freeze
    • Bottom Middle - Projector A/V Mute
  4. Control the volume using the - / + and shows volume level with a blue bar

Launch Your Lecture Materials

With the technology-powered on, it's time to prepare your digital lecture materials. This can be various programs or applications you wish to use and leverage. In this article, we demo using several frequently used applications. 

Common Digital Lecture Tools

Zoom: From the podium computer, locate and launch the Zoom Workplace computer application.

You will need to log in to your Zoom account with SSO to access and start your scheduled Zoom meetings.

Canvas: From the podium computer, (1) locate and launch Chrome. (2) Click on the Canvas link across the top of the FSW Homepage.

Changing Projector Display

When it comes time to move your digital lecture materials to a different projector in the classroom, you can quickly click and drag from one monitor to the next. You can display the material in each classroom with multiple projectors by moving the digital lecture items from computer monitor to computer monitor to swap the active projector.

Using the Doc Cam

We've provided the following information to assist you in using the Doc Cam.

        1. Ensure it's Powered On

        2. Select Doc Cam on the button Panel

 

        3. After one to five seconds the Projector will showcase the Document Camera and Doc Cam button will turn blue

Using the Pan-Tilt-Zoom (PTZ) Camera

There are two versions of the PTZ cameras located in the classrooms. The first are the Rally Models and the Second are the Aver models.

Rally Cameras

  • These are bluetooth base remotes, they do not need to be pointed at the camera, the camera spin upon receiving a signal. 
  • Use the circular control pad to move the camera freely
  • You can use the programmed camera positions by tapping the 1, or 2 buttons on the remote

Aver Camera

  • These are IR based camera, they Must point at the camera to function. 
  • A red light on the camera shows that it not active, blue shows it is in use. 
  • Camera will feedback light will blink when it receives a command from the remote.
  1. Pan and tilt camera image.
  2. Zoom in and out for camera.
  3. Preset controls
    • Press the Green P.
    • Press number pad to have camera go to assigned preset.

 

 

The PTZ Camera is the default Zoom Camera for each classroom.

Common Roadblocks

  • No input message on podium monitor
    • The computer might be in sleep mode. Try moving the mouse around to wake the computer up.
  • Projector not showing Computer Screen.
    • The projector might be turned off; check to see if lights on the projector lit up. 
    • Button panel is on wrong source, Press the top left button on button panel for the Podium PC.
