LTI Approval Process

There is an LTI approval process for all tool requests for addition to Canvas.  The approval process for each tool will include reviews for Functionality, Accessibility, Data Security, FERPA, Legal, Cost, as well as other factors. If you have any questions or concerns, please let us know.

What is LTI?

Learning Tools Interoperability (LTI) is a standard set of specifications for allowing third party learning applications to integrate with educational platforms. Third party LTI integration allows the application to connect to Canvas.

What is the reviewing process?

Each LTI will be reviewed in the areas of functionality for duplication, Accessibility, Data Security, FERPA, Legal, and Cost. This information will be reviewed and approved by a working group with assistance from the Academic Technology Committee. LTIs that duplicate current services will likely not be approved.

When do I need to request?

Please submit your requests as soon as possible as in some cases it could take 2-3 months to fully vet an LTI. Requests for LTI's can be made year round.

When will faculty be notified of approval?

As soon as the LTI/App passes the vetting process, you will be notified if it has been approved.

What happens if my LTI is not approved?

If your LTI is not approved, you will be notified of the reasons that the LTI failed approval and alternate options will be offered (if applicable).

How do I request an LTI?

Fill in the required information about on the LTI Request Form by clicking the "Request Service" button on this page.

Who pays for an LTI?

If an LTI has a cost associated, the cost is the responsibility of the department making the request. Tools that have college wide interest and impact can be considered for IT funding.

Will an approved LTI stay available?

LTIs will be reviewed every 3 years. Any LTIs found with no to minimal usage during the review will be slated for review for potential removal from the approved list. For free LTI tools, a change in cost will trigger an immediate review of the LTI.

Who supports an LTI?

The Office of Information Technology/Learning Technologies will only support campus-wide LTI integrations. For all other LTI/Application support, the vendor would need to be contacted.
