If your instructor requires the use of Respondus LockDown Browser to take a Canvas quiz, a particular browser must be installed on your computer before taking the exam. When using the Respondus LockDown browser to take a Canvas quiz, students are unable to print, copy, visit other websites, access other applications, or close an exam until it is submitted for grading.

Canvas Classic Quizzes
Log into Canvas, navigate to your course, and click on the quiz that requires Respondus LockDown Browser. You will see "Requires Respondus LockDown Browser" in the title.
Next, click on the "Take the Quiz" button.
On the next screen, click on the "Download Respondus LockDown Browser" link.
Note: Each school has a unique Respondus LockDown Browser link; therefore, you have to download Respondus LockDown Browser from that link inside the quiz, or you will not be able to take the exam.
A new tab will open on the same browser that you are currently using with information on how to download the Respondus LockDown Browser.

Installing Respondus LockDown Browser
Click on the "Install Now" button and follow the prompts on the screen to complete the process.
Respondus LockDown Browser must be installed on each computer being used to take a Canvas quiz that requires Respondus LockDown Browser.
Make sure you close down all other browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, etc.) before installing the Respondus LockDown Browser.
Open the installer and follow the onscreen instructions to complete the installation process.
Taking a Canvas Quiz
Click on the "LockDown Browser" icon.
Note: You will be required to close all programs and browsers on your computer before you can access the Canvas quiz; therefore, always choose "yes" when prompted to close a program or a browser.
After all programs and browsers are closed, you will be prompted to log into your Canvas course.
To start taking your Quiz with Respondus LockDown Browser, navigate to the quiz and select the "Take a Quiz" button.
Once a quiz has been started with Respondus LockDown Browser, you cannot exit until the "Submit Answers" button is clicked.

Close all programs, unless one is used to connect you to the Internet.
Log into Canvas with a regular browser, navigate to your course, and click on the quiz that requires Respondus LockDown Browser. (You will see "Requires Respondus LockDown Browser" in the quiz title).
On the next screen, if LockDown Browser has not previously been installed, you will be prompted to download and install the browser. Please click on the "latest version" link on the "Assessment Loading" page.

Taking a Canvas Quiz
To start taking your quiz with Respondus LockDown Browser, return to the quiz in a regular browser and open it to launch LockDown Browser.
If prompted to open LockDown Browser, please select the "Open LockDown Browser" button.
If prompted to close a blocked program (e.g. screen capture, instant messaging), choose "Yes" or "Close Process".
Note: Once a test has been started with Respondus LockDown Browser, you cannot exit until the test has been submitted for grading.
