How To: Configure Authenticator Applications and Extension Using a Setup Key

 

Please Note: If you have lost or deleted your MFA code, please contact the IT Helpdesk at 239-489-9202 for an MFA reset. A valid photo ID is required for all resets. IDs will only be verified in-person or on a live Zoom meeting during normal hours of operation

This article will walk you through the steps to set up and configure Authenticator Applications for iOS and Android and the web browser Authenticator Extension using a setup key to meet the Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) requirements for FSW system access. This option is available for those who do not have access to a camera and need to manually configure their MFA using a setup key.

Configure a Setup Key for iOS and Android


1) Download the Google Authenticator application on your phone from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store.

          

2) Navigate to https://www.fsw.edu/, click the MyFSW link, and enter your Username and Password.

3) Under the QR code, left-click the Unable to scan? link.

4) Choose the label you'd like the code to have and type it into the Device Name type field.

5) On your phone, open the Google Authenticator application and select the plus sign located on the bottom right. If you do not have any codes saved, select Add a Code ​​​​​​instead.

6) Select Enter a setup key.

7) Then, (1) enter "FSW" into the Account name type field. Then, (2) enter the 32-digit key located in Step 2 on the QR code setup page into the Your key type field. Next, (3) ensure Time based is selected under the Type of key drop-down.  Finally, (4) select Add.

Configure a Setup Key for the Google Chrome Extension


1) Open the Google Chrome browser.

2) Add the Google Authenticator Extension from https://authenticator.cc/

3) Pin the extension if desired by (1) selecting the bookmark icon in the upper right-hand corner of Google Chrome and then (2) clicking on the pin icon next to the "Authenticator" extension. Pinned extensions will show as filled in. 

4) Navigate to https://www.fsw.edu/, click the MyFSW link, and enter your Username and Password.

5) Under the QR code, left-click the Unable to scan? link.

6) Choose the label you'd like the code to have and type it into the Device Name type field.

7) Select the Authenticator icon in the top right corner of the web browser and then select the pencil icon.

       

8) Select the plus sign.

9) Select Manual Entry.

10) Type "FSW" into the Issuer type field. In the Secret field, copy and paste the 32-digit key located in Step 2. on the QR code setup page. Finally, select OK.

         

11) Select the Authenticator icon in the top right, as shown in Step 1. Then, enter the 6-digit code, as shown in Step 2, into the Code from Authenticator App type field located in Step 3. Finally, select Submit, as shown in Step 4.
