Purpose Statement
To establish a procedure for the use of alcoholic beverages on campus.
Guidelines
As an institution of higher education, Florida SouthWestern State College strives to create an environment conducive to learning, safety, personal and professional growth. This procedure discourages irresponsible use of alcoholic beverages and ensures compliance with local, state and federal laws by all groups and individuals on college premises.
- As used in this policy:
- Premises means all property owned by Florida SouthWestern State College but excluding the B.B. Mann performing Arts Hall, except when the Hall is being used for a College activity; and,
- Unauthorized area means any portion of the Premises other than that area which is directly related to an activity at which alcohol is served.
- All possession, consumption, and distribution of alcohol will be in accordance with all local, state and federal laws and follow college procedure.
- Possession of alcoholic beverages in unauthorized areas is prohibited.
- The sponsoring department/organization will contract with a licensed and insured vendor who will serve all alcoholic beverages.
- Persons must be 21 years of age to serve, buy, possess, or consume alcoholic beverages while on College premises at College functions.
- The use of alcoholic beverages at events sponsored by student groups is prohibited.
- State funds shall not be used to purchase alcoholic beverages.
Procedures
- The following shall apply to every group or organization wishing to offer, possesses, or consume alcoholic beverage on College premises or at College functions:
- Advertisements for events at which alcoholic beverages will be served, shall not refer to the quantity that will be available, nor shall the reference to alcoholic beverages be prominently displayed.
- Alcohol may only be procured and served at events by a licensed and insured vendor, approved by the College.
- Non-Alcoholic beverages and food must also be provided in sufficient quantities for persons who may desire them.
- Alcoholic beverages may not be used as prizes or awards for any event. Any competitions or contests at an event which involves alcoholic beverages are prohibited.
- Happy hour and drink specials are not prohibited.
- The use of common usage containers (trash cans, party balls, pitchers, etc) is prohibited.
- No one under the age of 18 may be involved in checking identification for service of alcoholic beverages
- Campus Public Safety will be notified of the event at which alcohol will be available and a determination will made by Public Safety as to any security requirement. Sponsoring organizations will be responsible for any costs associated.
- Penalty for violations: Any college related person, group or organization which is found to be in violation of this procedure shall be subject to disciplinary action. In the case of noncollege related persons, groups or organizations, a violation of this procedure or of federal, state or local law may result in loss of the privilege to use college premises or facilities.
