Purpose Statement

This procedure is to ensure that a final exam schedule is published in a timely manner and exam conflict solutions are described.

Guidelines

Florida SouthWestern State College (the "College") publishes a final exam schedule each semester to provide students and faculty notice of exam dates, times, and locations. Final exams must be given as scheduled unless an exception is authorized. The following procedure describes the process for publishing the schedule, maintaining faculty availability during the exam period, and resolving exam date conflicts or changes.

Procedures

  1. The Office of the Provost/Vice President of Academic Affairs prepares the final exam schedule in collaboration with the Academic Deans at least two weeks prior to the beginning of the semester. The approved schedule is posted on the College website at least two weeks before the beginning of the semester.
    1. The last exam of the semester (cumulative or not) should not be given during the final week of classes; it should be given during the scheduled final exam time.
    2. Faculty cannot change the time and/or place for a final exam scheduled during the final exam period without authorization from the Academic Dean's office.
    3. Exceptions to this policy may be granted for individual students due to a medically documented illness, exam conflicts, approved accommodations, or other extenuating circumstances.
  2. Faculty who are not offering traditional in-class exams during the final exam period are still expected to maintain office hours as described in the current Collective Negotiations Agreement. During the final exam period faculty may change their scheduled office hours by posting a new schedule on or near their office door, notifying their students directly, and sharing a copy with the Academic Dean.
  3. If a student has more than three final exams scheduled on the same day, or if there is a conflict between two or more scheduled exams, the Academic Dean's office will work with the student and faculty, and/or fellow Deans in other Schoolsto determine a mutually agreeable alternate schedule.
