Purpose Statement

The purpose of this procedure is to clarify which persons are authorized and permitted to attend classes.

Guidelines

The College seeks to support a safe and productive learning environment, and therefore class attendance is limited to enrolled students, guest speakers invited by the College, classroom instructor, authorized faculty, or appropriate staff.

Procedures

  1. Authorized Individuals.
    1. Only those persons enrolled in a class, or those persons who have authorization to be in attendance for a particular class, will be permitted to attend the class. Authorized persons include the following:
      1. Course instructors and academic administrators.
      2. Individuals who have enrolled and paid for the class.
      3. Individuals identified by the Office of Adaptive Services who attend a course to assist an enrolled student who has a documented disability.
      4. Guest speakers invited by the College or the instructor.
      5. Teaching assistants and/or anyone employed by the College and permitted by the instructor to assist with the course, such as Peer Mentors.
    2. Unauthorized Individuals.  If an unauthorized visitor refuses to leave a classroom or laboratory, assistance should be sought from the Campus Police Department and may be subject to trespass procedures.
