How To: Get Started With Pear Deck Premium

Pear Deck is an interactive presentation tool used to engage students in individual and social learning actively. Pear Deck adds various forms of interactivity to both Google Slides as well as Microsoft PowerPoint.

Interactivity can be added from various slide templates they provide or by adding Pear Deck features to slides you have already created.

Request Pear Deck Premium


Florida SouthWestern State College has added Premium Pear Deck to it's growing list of tools for faculty to leverage. To gain access to this tool, you will need to submit a request to the FSW IT department using the following service request form Request Pear Deck Premium.

Once approved, you will be notified, and then you can begin to leverage the premium features.

Connect Pear Deck Premium Service With Your FSW Google Account


After you receive notification that you have been added to the Premium FSW Pear Deck account, you will need to connect the service to your FSW Google Account by logging into Pear Deck's website with your FSW Google Account. 

  • Visit the Pear Deck website and click on "Teacher Login" in the top right.

  • Click the "Log in with Google" button.

  • You will be prompted to provide the email address to log in with. (You may be prompted to select a Google Account to log in with. Use your @fsw.edu email address account.)
  • Click "Next"
  • Enter your FSW password.

  • You may be prompted to "Allow"  Pear Deck access to your Google Account. Click "Allow."
  • You should be brought back to the Pear Deck homepage.

Adding the Pear Deck Add-on to Google Slides


Before being able to leverage Pear Deck, you will need to add the add-on within Google Slides. This is a one-time process, and once completed, you will not need to repeat this step.

  • Open the Google Slides website.
  • Log in using your @fsw.edu email address.
  • You can either load a previous Google Slide presentation you have created or start a new one.

Once the presentation is loaded, take the following steps to add the Pear Deck "Add-On."

  1. Locate and click on the "Add-On" menu 
  2. Mouse over and click on "Get add-ons."

  • In the pop-up that appears, Search for and click-on Pear Deck for Google Slides.

  • A new pop-up will appear, locate, and click on "Install."

  • Accept and Continue if prompted to complete the installation.
  • You will receive a confirmation of the installation. Click "Done" to be taken back to your presentation within Google Slides.

Access Pear Deck Dashboard of Tools for Google Slides


Once you have added the Pear Deck add-on to your Google slides, you can get started by taking the following steps:

  • Click "Add-ons"
  • Mouse over "Pear Deck for Google Slides Add-on"
  • Click on "Open Pear Deck Add-on"

  • To the right, you should see your Pear Deck control panel.

  1. Browse and view Pear Deck templates available to get you started.

  2. Add engaging questions to your slides with the numerous options available.

  3. Leverage the premium feature to add audio to your slides.

Connect Pear Deck Premium Service With Microsoft


After you receive notification that you have been added to the Premium FSW Pear Deck account, you will need to connect the service to your FSW Microsoft Account by logging into Pear Deck's website with your FSW Microsoft Account. 

 Please Note:  Pear Deck is only available in the Online version of PowerPoint (not in the Desktop version) at this time.

  • Visit the Pear Deck website and click on "Teacher Login" in the top right.

  • Click the "Log in with Microsoft" button.

  • You will be prompted to provide your FSW email address. Use your @fsw.edu email address account.
  • Click "Next"
  • Microsoft sign in
  • You might see the following screen for a few seconds.
  • You will be prompted to log in using your FSW portal user name and password.

  • Next, select the "Teacher" Role.

  • On the next screen, click on the "Authorize with Microsoft" button.

  • Click the "Accept" button.

  • Next, click on the "Log in to Premium" button.

  • You should be brought back to the Pear Deck homepage and should see in the top-right your email address and a little crown upon your profile image.

Adding the Pear Deck Add-ins to PowerPoint online


  • Click the "Create Presentation" button on the Pear Deck home page or open any PowerPoint Online Presentation.

  • Next, click on the "Insert" tab   
  • Then, click on "Add-ins." To see Add-ins, you may need to click on the three-dots menu button or expand the browser window.

  • On the next screen, click the "ADMIN MANAGED" tab and then click the "Add" button.

  • Going forward, click on the "Home" tab. Then click on the More Options (3-dots) button and select "Pear Deck" to open the sidebar.
